CINEA highlights RESPONSE and its contribution to a more resilient Black Sea

  • by

The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has featured the RESPONSE project in a new article following the Black Sea Common Maritime Agenda Stakeholder Conference 2026, held on 30 September in Burgas, Bulgaria.

Under the title “A Black Sea that is ready for what comes next”, the article highlights the need for stronger preparedness, knowledge, skills and cross-border cooperation to address the growing pressures affecting the Black Sea, from marine pollution and climate-related risks to the environmental consequences of the war in Ukraine.

CINEA places particular emphasis on the contribution of RESPONSE to strengthening preparedness for marine pollution incidents through the development and testing of training programmes tailored to the specific needs and risks of the Black Sea region. The article also underlines the project’s role in supporting authorities and organisations to improve pollution monitoring, information sharing and coordinated response.

The publication also celebrates an important achievement for our consortium: RESPONSE received a Black Sea Project Award 2026, recognising its innovative and impactful contribution to the region. During the Conference, RESPONSE results were showcased together with those of Black Sea SIERRA in a dedicated session focusing on preparedness and response to marine pollution, including pollution linked to armed conflict.

As Luca Marangoni, Head of Unit at CINEA, stressed during the Conference, the next step is to ensure that the tools developed through projects such as RESPONSE are effectively put into practice. The CINEA article reinforces this message, highlighting the importance of transforming project results into lasting capacity, stronger cooperation and practical action across the Black Sea region.

We are proud to see the work of RESPONSE recognised at European and regional level and look forward to seeing its training resources, tools and approaches continue to support preparedness, cooperation and resilience beyond the project’s lifetime.
