Students from the “Environmental Engineering” and “Civil Protection in Disasters and Accidents” programs of the Technical University in Varna, Bulgaria participated in the Black Sea NGO Network national training workshop entitled “Monitoring and Operational Activities for Managing Marine Pollution in Disasters and Accidents,” which took place on December 11, 2025. The event was part of the international RESPONSE project, funded by the European Maritime, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Fund.<\/p>\r\n

The workshop featured presentations on topics developed for training in monitoring and preparedness to respond to incidents involving marine pollution from various sources, including military operations, accidents, and other incidents.<\/p>\r\n

The focus of the RESPONSE project and its act \u00a0\u00a0ivities is on developing training plans and programs for experts, government agencies, businesses, and other actors involved in accidents and disasters, monitoring, prevention, and protection of the marine environment from pollution, incorporating both theoretical and practical elements. A volunteer citizen science platform for monitoring eutrophication with distant EO tools, the Water Warden, was presented at the workshop revealing the potential of IT in the distant marine pollution monitoring.<\/p>\r\n
